The flagship location is right across the street from The University of Utah in a fun brick-walled basement open till 2 am and thus a favorite for hungry students.

The Pie’s pizza is scratch-made with hand-tossed dough and the freshest cheese, meats, and veggies chopped daily. They’ve been consistently voted the best pizza in Salt Lake City by local publications.

Their specialty pies fuse world flavors into delicious and unique thin and thick crust pizzas. I loved their Thai Pie with Thai peanut sauce base, chicken breast, carrots, red onions, pineapple, fresh basil, and cilantro, topped with light mozzarella and toasted sesame seeds.

Teetering between Ballpark and Liberty Wells on State Street, Salt Lake City’s main artery, Rusted Sun Pizzeria is a South Salt Lake neighborhood favorite for delicious pizza, calzones, and cold brews.

Located inside an old movie theatre, Rusted Sun still retains the backlit billboard that they use to announce menu items and daily specials instead of movie titles.

The calzones at Rusted Sun are as popular as their crispy, thin-crust pizzas. They also have delicious family-style salads full of fresh meats, veggies, pasta, and house-made dressings.

I recommend the shrimp Alfredo calzone with mozzarella, shrimp, broccoli, red onion, and creamy Alfredo sauce.

They’ve got a great pizza deal from Tuesdays-Thursdays where you get a 5$ Margherita pizza with the purchase of a regular specialty pie. Their Neapolitan-style pizza has the crispiest, bubbliest crust, and the specialty pizzas have the most creative combinations.

Take, for example, the Green’s, Eggs, and Jamon Pizza with garlic cream, mozzarella, red onion, charred broccolini, egg yolk, and Iberico ham flavored potato chips.

True to its name, From Scratch’s Neapolitan-style pizza makes all its sauces and dough from scratch. If you aren’t in the mood for pizza, they also make a killer burger or house-smoked pastrami sandwich.

I enjoyed the Fennel Sausage pizza with homemade crème Fraiche and fennel sausage, mozzarella cheese, and red and green onions.

They use fresh, healthy ingredients to make authentic wood-fired pizzas, entrees, and shareable vegetable dishes. They are an East Central staple for take-out, whipping up beautifully presented meals in 15 minutes or less.

I ordered a few vegetable dishes because they looked so good. The roasted cauliflower and beets with arugula were fresh and flavorful.

My favorite specialty pie was the Beehive, a red pie with mozzarella, Calabrese pepperoni, pickled jalapenos, honey, and Grana Padano.

Chef Josh draws inspiration from Sicilian-style pan pizza but creates a Detroit-style char to its edges and loads on the toppings. You can also find a wealth of delicious sandwiches, burgers, and small plates.

My favorite pizza was the Italian Beef Dip with red sauce, slow-braised beef, roasted peppers, mushrooms, and caramelized onions served with a side of house-made giardiniera and Italian bone stock aus jus.

Located in Millcreek a few blocks from Canyon Rim Park, Big Apple Pizzeria’s old-school Italian American brick-walled dining room offers a fun and cozy atmosphere with a New York feel.

Their stone deck pizzas and calzones have authentic New York-style crusts, but the topping combinations take inspiration from around the U.S.

They also have a pizza sandwich creation called a bender with your choice of meat and cheese, grilled peppers and onions, lettuce, and tomatoes, in a folded over pizza slice.
